Reminders!!

 

  • 2006 membership cards will be available at the door for Regular, Social, and Wife Social Members beginning on November 5, 2005.  All Life Members will have their cards mailed to them. Can't get to the Club? Send us your 2006 dues and we will mail you your 2006 card.
  • Your 2005 membership expires on December 31, 2005. A $5.00 late fee is applied after December 31st.
  • You can always log on to our website for up to date info.  Just go to www.hillsiderodandgun.org. You can even read this newsletter there!
  • The Annual Game Dinner will be held on February 18, 2006. Doors open at noon, twenty dollar entrance fee includes a chance at a gun.
  • If you signed up for corn back in September and October of 2005 you will be able to pick up your corn on January 15, 2006 from 8:00AM until 1:00PM.
  • If you get a BIG BUCK be sure to take it to Cooper's in Mansfield to be measured for the Hillside's BIG BUCK Contest.
  • There will be a New Year's Eve celebration at the Club this year.  Bordertown Sound will be the DJ for the evening.  Cost will be $10.00 per person/buy your own drinks.
The Club will be closed on Saturday February 18, 2006 due to the Game Dinner.
Gun Tickets (for March 2006) are on sale at the Club, Get'em while they last.
Long time Club manager Rob Skolny retired from his duties as manager effective in January 2005.  The members of the Hillside thank Rob for his tireless efforts to make the Club a great place to spend an afternoon.  Robb Bowens, formerly of the Executive Board, replaces Rob as Club Manager.
Last Year's New Year's Eve party had over 70 party goers reveling in the New Year at the Club.
The Archery League remodeled the basement and turned it into a great place for indoor archery.  In addition to adding more lanes the renovation also improved safety.
The Hillside completed the purchase of the Kaminski property on January 17, 2005.  This property borders the club to the North.  The house and outbuildings are currently being rented to Club members.
Shortly after last year's deer season Club members sent a letter to Senator Scarnatti opposing parts Dr. Gary Alt's deer management plan.  Senator Scarnatti responded stating that he had received many letters, similar to ours, from other hunting clubs.
The Club has resurrected the annual small game hunts.  This year's January hunt brought out 25 hunters despite the bitter cold.
Over 160 regular members attended the annual game dinner this year.
This year's Big Buck Contest Winners were: First Place John Kuhl with an 8 point that scored 120.75, Second place was Barry Watkins with an 8 point that scored 106.25, and third place was Poncho with a score of 102.25.
Forty Three future hunters completed their Hunter/Trapper Safety Course at the Club this past March.
The Hillside's Scholarship recipients for 2005 were:  Angela Kriner of North Penn High School, Trey Knapp of Liberty High School, Andrew McLaughlin of Canton High School, and Sarah Sherman of Mansfield High School.
The Club sponsored its annual Fishing Derby for Kids in May 2005.  There were about 60 kids that enjoyed a great day of fishing.  The top prize winners were; Cole Winder              captured 1st prize for a $20 gold coin - Hunter Sackett took 2nd prize and got a Fishing pole, Brady Couch hooked 3rd  prize and got a Bait can/goodie bag, Taylor Sember snagged 4th prize and got a Tackle Box, Brittany Weiskopff, Jarod Anderson, and Konnor Manikowski all received a $15.00 gift certificate.
The Year 2005 marked the beginning of the Stan Bombaski Memorial Sportsman's Challenge.  Fourteen teams comprised of trap shooters and archery shooters squared off against one another this year.  Each team competed in trap, archery, and finally deer rifle marksmanship at the rifle range.  This is certain to be an annual event.
In July 2005 Club members voted to begin opening the Club on Saturdays in addition to its Sunday hours.  September 10th marked the beginning of our Saturday hours.
Mitch Orchowski won this year's Trophy Whitetail Hunt.  Mitch and a companion will be hunting in Missouri for Trophy Whitetails in the month of November.  If you didn't get your Trophy Raffle ticket this year, be sure to get it next year!
In July Senator Scarnatti visited sites where the Hillside and TCCC are working to restore clean water to the Tioga River Watershed.
The Spring Gobbler contest was won by Tim Payne.  Bill Bixby won the contest last year and came in a close second this year.
The third annual Lobster Bake was, once again, a smashing success.  This year the Club helped to raise over $4,000 to benefit the watershed cleanup project.
The 3rd annual Children's Miracle Network Trap Shoot raised money for a good cause with 85 shooters turning out.  Thanks to all that worked so hard to make the shoot a success.  Bob Kuzneski reported that $860 profit was raised and donated to CMN.
